Save Proposition 13 for Palos Verdes homes and the South Bay.
I received this email from Craig Huey today and thought it a good idea to make it a subject of my blog post for your review. Proposition 13 was and is instrumental in keeping homes affordable for hundreds of thousands of folks across the state of California. Anything done to weaken its intent will create incredible damage to budgets of so many families. The problem here in California is not a revenue one, but a spending one. Unfortunately our legislature still does not understand this. On the other hand, we get what we vote for, so as a body politic, maybe we need to look inwards to ourselves and change OUR thinking!
Proposition 13 for Palos Verdes homes
Here’s Craig’s email to me and a link where you can provide YOUR SUPPORT!
Thanks so much for your help in letting the Legislature know that we oppose the weakening of Proposition 13. As you know people will lose their homes, business owners will lose their businesses, jobs will be lost, rents will rise and taxes will increase if Proposition 13 is changed, modified or destroyed.
I’m sad to say that the Assembly passed a horrific modification that will unfairly raise taxes. Homeowners will have non-homeowners voting by less than a two-thirds majority to increase property taxes. Even though the politicians had said they supported Proposition 13, such as Al Muratsuchi, they were part of the liberal democratic supermajority that voted for it.
Those voting for it were the following Democrats: Alejo, Ammiano, Atkins, Bloom, Blumenfield, Bocanegra, Bonilla, Bonta, Bradford, Brown, Buchanan, Ian Calderon, Campos, Chau, Chesbro, Cooley, Daly, Dickinson, Eggman, Fong, Fox, Frazier, Garcia, Gatto, Gomez, Gonzalez, Gordon, Gray, Hall, Roger Hernández, Holden, Jones-Sawyer, Levine, Lowenthal, Medina, Mitchell, Mullin, Muratsuchi, Nazarian, Pan, Perea, V. Manuel Pérez, Quirk, Quirk-Silva, Rendon, Salas, Skinner, Stone, Ting, Weber, Wieckowski, Williams, Yamada, John A. Pérez
Be sure to remember that on election day.
The bill that the Assembly passed now goes to the State Senate. There it looks like it’s in suspense. We will keep you informed this is the case, which means it will not be voted on again until possibly next year. Thanks again for your opposition to changing Proposition 13. Please encourage others to sign the petition by going to www.saveproposition13.com, and forward this email to them. It has had a positive effect.
Best wishes,
Craig Huey Small Business Owner P.S. Again, please forward this to your friends and ask them to go to www.saveproposition13.com and sign our petition — we must stop the bill in the Senate.
